Meriwest was a proud sponsor of the National Association of Women Business Owners’ (NAWBO) recent Enterprising Women Foundation’s event “Celebrating Women Entrepreneurs and Girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)".
In conjunction with Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) and the Women President’s Organization, NAWBO presented a motivational evening focused on women in STEM. The panel of inspirational women speakers who have made it in their industries shared their stories of success and how they overcame the unique barriers they encountered on the road to their success.
The Enterprising Women Foundation celebrated several high school girls from diverse backgrounds that are embarking on similar paths. As members of Mentoring YEW – a program promoting Young Enterprising Women – these high school girls are working on creating products and services in STEM or STEM-related fi elds as part of their participation in the program. The panel of women entrepreneurs came together to recognize, inspire, and motivate the next generation of young female leaders.
It was a truly inspirational evening to hear the high school students' share stories of their background, how they came to decide on a career path into the world of STEM, their successes (if I recall, 3 of them are headed off to UC Berkeley in the Fall).
"I'm capable of doing things I never thought I could do. I'm motivated to start my own company. I want to make a difference in my community." That seemed to be the underlying theme for the evening, and no doubt that is the direction these girls are all headed!
